I think most CE students would agree with me that SC208 is the most interesting and fun course offered by SCE. However, I must admit that I had a completely different opinion at the beginning of the course. When I first found out that I have to design part of a room using POV-Ray for one of the lab sessions, I was having serious doubts about completing the task. I had troubles designing the cover page for my exercise book back in primary school, so how am I going to come up with designs for my room? One may think, "What's so difficult about that? Just draw a table here and a bed there." Yeah, right! Try doing that without a pencil and ruler. The room and the furniture have to be generated using POV-Ray. Even if I can think of a design, will POV-Ray be able to convert my source code into a room that I can actually see? And so it was with this uncertainty that I proceed with creating my first image using POV-Ray. After
going through the POV-Ray tutorial, I felt confident enough to start
designing my room. It took me quite a while to get used to the POV-Ray
language. Progress was slow at the beginning but I could see that, bit
by bit, I was actually able to get something similar to what I had in
mind. Being able to see what I had created changed my opinion of this
course. I was actually having fun in the process of getting work done.
Eventually, I was able to create part of the room with funny-looking
furniture.
